The “Wildbretsdell” (venison dell) describes the basin between the Herzerkopf and the Schulkopf hills. Game liked to stay here which led to its name. The official name, transferred into New High German, has been „Wildbretsdell“ since 1845. In the vernacular it is called “Wilpertsdell” in order to avoid the accumulation of consonants in the pronunciation of the Wildbretsdell. This version is documented in books from 1805 and 1818. Hence, the vernacular never followed the official naming.
